Historical Journey from Past to Present

Our School History

Erzurum Maturation Institute, which will contribute to the promotion of the ancient city of Erzurum; its economic, social and cultural life, started its activities as the 23rd Maturation Institute on 04.01.2019. The service building of our institution, which is affiliated with the Ministry of National Education Lifelong General Directorate, is located in a historical district where the historical Twin Minaret Madrasah and Three Tombs, which are the symbols of our city, are located.

The fact that the historical Şair Nefi Middle School building, where the institute continues its services, is located on the Culture Road Project also adds a different vision to our institution. In the historical Şair Nefi building, the idadi (high school) building began to serve in 1889 with the contributions of Abdülhamit Han. It merged with Erzurum Rüştiye School in 1891. In 1913, the idadi building was converted to Sultaniye. Sultaniye was also closed in 1914. The building began to serve as a Boys' Teachers' School in 1925. After 1942, it would serve as a Girls' Middle School. In 1957, Atatürk University would start education in this building. After the campus settlement was completed, the university moved to its current campus.

After the 1971-72 academic year, the building started providing mixed secondary school education. The building served as a secondary school until the institute started its service in 2019.

The maturation institute has brought vitality to the region and city it is responsible for by bringing together our history with modern life by training masters of handicrafts that are on the verge of extinction and providing employment. Erzurum Maturation Institute, which is a candidate to be one of the brand institutions of Erzurum, is of great importance in terms of bringing our traditional handicrafts that are on the verge of extinction and the folkloric characteristics of the region back to light.

While transferring our past experiences, food and beverage culture and folkloric structure to future generations, it will provide all the shapes and patterns of our region and will be a bridge between the past and modern life. For this purpose, students who graduate after two years of education are employed as masters, master instructors and designers in institutions and organizations. The main goal is to contribute to the national economy of the workforce they train, to increase the social status of women and to train qualified personnel.

Our institute; Erzurum, Bayburt, Kars, Ardahan, Ağrı and Iğdır provinces; with the belief that the cultures and folkloric structures of these provinces are a unique source, in addition to the duty of producing and introducing, it also works with all its might to bring our emotional history to light and pass it on from generation to generation. Erzurum Maturation Institute, which is a part of the maturation institutes, which are the miracle of Turkish needle, also strives to serve the city of Erzurum, an ancient civilization, and its surroundings.
